About Newton UNplugged
Dear Community:
We hope that this year's Newton UNplugged Calendar will help you find enjoyable ways to Connect with your families and friends.
The month-long UNplugged program, now in its third year, originated with the Needham Youth Commission. The Newton Community Service Center decided to sponsor UNplugged in Newton after the director of the Child Assault Prevention Program (CAP) heard elementary school children commenting they were too busy, too stressed, too lonely and just plain missing their parents. The need was obvious, and the Needham model seemed like a good way to help address it. We thank the Needham Youth Commission for sharing their work with us.
We welcome your suggestions for next year's Calendar. We also would love to hear from you if you'd like to join the UNPLUGGED and CONNECTED Committee: gsommer@ncscweb.org.
Our appreciation and thanks go to Dr. Young, Dr. Malone Neville, Mary Burns, the Newton School Committee, Dede Reade, Mayor Cohen, Jeremy Solomon, Angier School PTO Human Differences Committee, Pam Appleton, Dick Hanelin, Judy Dore, Stephanie Lefever, Channon Ames, Lisa Mirable, Terry Yoffie and the PTO Council for their support of this project. We also thank Michelle Groper, Andy Vizulis (NPS website), Jane Cuthbertson and Daryl Azure for helping us get the word out.
