A presentation of the interior plans of Newton North High School was made by John Prokos. Many meetings and discussions with the users of the building have informed their plans.  A small area on the lower level for the mechanical system vs. the roof appears to be more cost efficient.  The main lobby is somewhat smaller.  The preschool is in front across from athletics, nurse and film lecture hall.  The Tigers Loft is off of the main lobby.  The art classrooms face north near the courtyard.  Career and Technical Education is off the loading dock area.  Music classes are across from the auditorium.  The library is on the second floor.  House offices are located on both the first and second floors.  Teacher work spaces and guidance are on the third and fourth floors so adults are present on each of the floors in addition to teachers.  The upper floors are mainly for the science department.  There is a computer lab on every floor.

The Committee then viewed preliminary elevation drawings and heard about the computer generated lighting analysis to meet LEED standards for natural lighting especially focused on the classrooms – about 35% of the planned faηade is made up of windows.

There are some measures that could be taken to try to reduce costs. An early site package would be desirable as well as preordering steel, fixtures, etc.  Early bid packages will also help.  They are several weeks away from the first pass of cost estimates.  It probably will be sometime in October before there are estimates to be talked about. The budget is being worked out and more information will follow.
