CALL TO ORDER

Anne Larner called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. and noted that the purpose of tonight’s meeting is to consider the Superintendent’s recommendation of Margery Daniels as Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services.

Superintendent Jeffrey Young recommended the appointment for two years, at a salary for FY05 of $115,000.  He recounted the search to fill the vacancy and reported that Ms. Daniels received the solid support of those involved in the search.  She has a strong background and very significant experience.

Susie Heyman stated that she welcomed Margery’s strong political skills – an important addition to her experience and academic background.

Reenie Murphy asked how salaries were set for Central Staff.

Jeff Young replied that there were three key factors:  the market, a candidate’s current salary, and the salaries of other Central Staff members.

Marc Laredo suggested that it would be appropriate to enlist some outside expertise to help the system review top salaries for both market competitiveness and appropriate placement relative to each other based on responsibilities.

The Committee and Superintendent agreed and Jeff hopes to do this within the next six months to a year.
