CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Anne Larner
called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m.
DISCUSSION OF FY03 BUDGET
Mayor Cohen outlined the
issues surrounding the budget for the Newton South High School building project
and the need to increase the contingency to 10%, to ensure enough dollars are
available to cover any unforeseen issues with Phase 2 of the project. The School Committee discussed the issues
involved in using FY03 school operating dollars to help fund Newton South technology.
MOTION: It was moved that the School Committee
direct
the Superintendent to try to
identify as much
funding as possible in the FY03 budget
and other
FY03 sources of money that could
be used to fund
elementary and middle school
technology, consistent
with the technology plans developed by the Director
of Information Technology, and that the
Superintendent
report back to the Committee regarding these
efforts.

direct the
Superintendent to transfer
$716,000 within the FY03
operating budget to fund
technology at Newton South
High School.

high school technology, since there are too many
unknowns
regarding FY04 funds and needs.
