SPECIAL ELEMENTARY OUT-OF-DISTRICT SCHOOL PROCEDURE
FOR THE 2005-06 School Year Only
ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE:
Out-of-District placements for students who wish to attend an elementary school in Newton other than his/her district school are limited. Such placements are made on a space available basis only. Placement decisions are made by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in consultation with the sending and receiving school principals and are not subject to appeal.
For the 2005/06 school year, applications will be accepted between June 28 and July 8 only. Applications received after July 8 will not be considered unless a family shows evidence of having moved to Newton after that date. Placement decisions will be announced shortly after July 8.
Students who are accepted for out-of-district placement must stay in the school selected for the entire 2005-06 school year and are expected to remain in the out-of-district elementary school through grade 5. Students who wish to attend the middle school associated with their out-of-district elementary school feeder pattern must apply when the filing date is announced. Students who wish to return to their original neighborhood elementary school in 2006-07 must notify the Attendance Office of their intent by January 31, 2006.
Class size in a given grade, in a specific school, may preclude any placements, including siblings.
Parents/guardians will be responsible for transporting their child to the out-of-district school.
“Special” elementary applications for the 2005-06 school year will be available in the Attendance Office in the Education Center, 100 Walnut Street, Room 320, Newtonville, MA 02460, or you may call 617-559-6030. Applications should be returned to the Attendance Office by the July 8th deadline.
