OUT-OF-DISTRICT POLICY

 

Out-of-District placements for students living in Newton who wish to attend a school in Newton other than his/her district school, are limited, on a space available basis only.  Applications must be submitted on current forms which will be available in the Attendance Office at the Education Center beginning November 1.

Completed applications, signed by the in-district principal, can be submitted no earlier than January 4 for the school year preceding the desired registration, and no later than the last school day in January.  No applications will be accepted after that date.  Hand-delivered applications will only be accepted from the parent or legal guardian.  Application forms must include a written statement in order to be considered.

Please note the following:

• Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.
• Siblings of students already enrolled in the school will be given preference over children with no siblings in the school provided there is space.
• Class size in a given grade, in a given year, in a specified school, may preclude any placements including siblings
• Parents will be responsible for transporting their child to the out-of-district school.

Members of Units A, B, C, D, E, NESA and Custodians, as well as interested Boston parents of students participating in the Newton METCO program, should call the Attendance Office at 617-552-7652 for information after November 1.  It should be noted that Tuition-Free Enrollment is limited to regular education programs only.
