NPS CRISIS UPDATE

Jeff Young, Superintendent

Following this morning's tragic air crashes, I have decided to keep all schools open for the remainder of this afternoon, as I believe school is the safest place for children in a time of emergency. Once students have been dismissed from school today, the crisis team in each building will meet to discuss plans for dealing with this developing situation.

Today I will be meeting with the citywide crisis team in the Mayor's office to decide what steps the City will take in the coming hours and days. Later today, I am convening a meeting of all school principals to review the day and to prepare for tomorrow.

As of this time, I expect that school will open tomorrow as usual.
Nevertheless, we are preparing the call-down lists in the event that I must cancel or delay the opening of school on Wednesday. Please stay tuned to your radio and television in the morning for announcements of possible school closings.

All of us are deeply frightened by what is happening right now. Let us all do our best to support our adult colleagues as well as the children.
